Kansas State Fair crowns texting champ
Hutchinson ? The Kansas State Fair has ended its 10-day run in Hutchinson.
Pig races and an antique tractor pull were among the activities visitors were treated to as the fair wrapped up Sunday.
The weekend’s events also included a text-messaging competition. Haley Tieben, of Manhattan, won the event Saturday and a top prize of $1,000. The Kansas State University student finished fourth in last year’s competition.
Makenzie Gottsponer, of Garden City, took second place and received $250 and tickets to a concert on Sunday.
Tieben and Gottsponer were among 32 people who competed to accurately and quickly type a message flashed on a screen: “Skies are fair in Kansas. Clouds are rare in Kansas. Never saw a place that could compare to Kansas.” U.S. Cellular sponsored the event.
