A Lawrence man was sentenced to 32 months in prison on Friday for molesting his 16-year-old daughter, Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson said.

Prosecutors said the 35-year-old man engaged in sexual relations with his child between Sept. 1, 2008, and Oct. 16, 2008. Lawrence police said the crime occurred in more than one location.

Officers began investigating the incest case when the victim’s out-of-state mother reported finding sexual pictures on her daughter’s cell phone, prosecutors said.

The defendant is not being named by the Lawrence Journal-World, to protect the identity of the victim who shares his last name.

He’ll be required to register as a sex offender and spend two years on probation once he’s released from prison, said Cheryl Wright, Branson’s spokeswoman.

Let's leave out the fact that is was his daughter, (I don't think incest is a crime if she was 18), why does he gets 32 months and the guy earlier this week only got probation for sex with a 15 year old?

OldEnuf2BYurDad 5 years, 3 months ago

Probably some very different circumstances (agression, etc.). Also, this guy might have plead not guilty, fought the charges, failed to show remorse, etc.

If you recall the case of the guy last week involved a run away that presented herself as 18. Although he admitted she told him later she was younger.

Incest however is more heinous. The statute of limitations on sex offenses is 5 years after realization. If the victim here is 18 she/he may have not felt safe to expose the situation prior to reaching legal age. Very often the victims of sexual abuse are affraid to expose their oppressor. This is especially true when the perpatrator is a family member.

I agree Autie. Why do we continue to let these sickos live? He has no redeemable qualities as a person and is the lowest form of scum. If you do something sexual to a child you're scum and deserve to die.

This guy is going to make some real close "friends" in prison.

Less than 3 years. Sex crimes against kids should be longer than this.

Thanks for the former article, mammaweeks3. "he could be sentenced to 31 months to 136 months depending on his criminal history."

So, he received almost the minimum sentence for a heinous crime, which as many others have noted, may have been going on for god knows how long.

Thank you once again, JUDGE PAULA MARTIN.

I wish I lived in your county to I could help to vote her out. Disgusting.

How do we know that it wasn't the daughter's idea?? Maybe she is the instigator of the 'abuse'.

slowplay 5 years, 3 months ago

Autie, you are correct. I have a friend who has worked on child abuse sexual cases for the past 20 years. He has never seen a reformed pedophile. I'd love to see castration as part of the punishment for these predators.

Sulla, what variety of idiot are you!!! Even if, and did you hear me say if, the girl "instigated" the abuse, it changes nothing. He is her father!! Does that mean nothing to you? Fathers are supposed to protect and provide for, and provide a moral compass for their child. This was going on when she was a minor. This makes it nonconsensual. Oh, it is also wrong, sick, evil, perverted, etc, etc. I will literally pray that the inmates wherever this sicko is sent will "take care of it". It's rather pathetic when fellow criminals/inmates can mete out justice when the justice system fails. Once more, welcome to Dg. Co., Ks. Welcome child molesters, child rapists, and child pornographers. Fear not, oh sick ones. Even if our illustrious D.A. and A.D.A.'s actually press charges (ha,ha), don't worry. Get Martin for a judge, and you'll get off lightly.

oooooooooooo I got to speak my mind about this one.. 32 months for molesting his own daughter? WHAT IN THE HE!! IS WRONG WITH THIS COURT SYSTEM? Mild sentence, since it was his own? That has got to be the nastest thing I have ever heard of in my life. ooo I hope he get's it really good while he's in jail. If I was a judge.. Humm can't say what I'd give the rat ( on here) But ooo he wouldn't like it! I am sick of hearing about child exploytation and children getting molested and the sick a$$ people getting mild sentences. Last I knew Adult's were suppossed to take care of children. Not hurt them.. ERRRRRRRRRRRRRR. Can anyone begin to image how that girl feels? My father did this to me and I turned for help. Dad has to go to jail where he can watch cable tv and eat for free. I on the other hand will have to deal with this for the rest of my life and he only has too for 32 months. Not RIGHT..... If ya ask me!

Friend73, if I read your comment correctly, you are the victim. If so, or even if you're not but were the victim of the same crime at another time, a lot of us are on your side. A lot. I worked as a prison nurse. Trust me, the drug runners, mafia, and garden variety murderers will get more mercy from their fellow inmates than your father will. You are right. Your life will never be the same. Yes, there is healing and help available, but no one experiences this and remains the same. My sister and her sisters were all sexually abused by their father. In my sister's case, it was her step-father. God help this man if I ever meet him in person. It's a good thing I cannot go up to Wi and look him up for a little visit.

Friend, I misread the last part of what you posted, and misinterpreted it. I'm sorry. This issue pushes a very personal button with me. Again, I apologize.

i adopted a child who had this happen to her. she is a wonderful teenage girl who may never live a normal life because of the damage done to her and the fear/guilt and self hate. her father got no legal penalty except for losing his kid and he has several more...i favor the mad dog fix. you are doing society and the person themselves a favor by ending the danger. i cannot believe that this man gets such a light sentence and i just want to cry for the children out there that suffer this in silence every day.

Angie Dick 5 years, 3 months ago

misplacedcheesehead. No this never happened to me. THANK GOD. I was just thinking, I'd of thought that if it did. No reason to say ur sorry, not a big deal. I honestly do hope the rat get's what he deserves and 32 months isn't nothing in my eyes other than a slap on the wrist. I don't believe in stiff punshiment unless it involves things of this matter or murder or rape. Just think it's odd someone could sell dope get LIFE, but yet hurt a kid u get probation 90 % of the time.. Just bass akwards.. I think it's nasty and makes me sick of the thought. I think sometimes, that is why kids that have that happen NEVER speak up? The court system won't do nothing for them??? So they turn to their parents. We'll this girl didn't get that chance.. NOT RIGHT!
