Overland Park ? Free State High’s volleyball team went 2-1 on Thursday night at the Shawnee Mission South quadrangular.

The Firebirds lost to Blue Valley North 16-25, 11-25, then defeated SM Northwest 25-19, 25-23 and SM South 25-18, 25-16.

Marissa Thibodo had four blocks and four kills, Meaghan Holmes five blocks and Alex Mollohan five kills and four blocks for Free State, 4-6 overall and 3-1 in the Sunflower League.

“We are seeing improvement,” coach Nancy Hopkins said. “We’re keeping the ball alive with better defense.”
