D.A.: Word of video led rape accuser to recant

September 18, 2009

— A Hofstra University freshman who had claimed she was raped by five men in a dormitory bathroom changed her story after prosecutors confronted her with the revelation that a video of the encounter may have been recorded, a prosecutor said Thursday.

The recantation on Wednesday night led to the immediate release of four men, including one student at the Long Island college, who had been arrested on rape and other charges. Police had been seeking to arrest a fifth man when the charges were dropped.

The sex did occur in a bathroom but was consensual, a prosecutor said. Authorities could decide within weeks whether to charge the 18-year-old woman for making up the story.

This is just a prime example of why some men of color always feel that they are being targeted.

Effing despicable. Words cannot express my disgust - and the way it pains me for all the victims of sexual violence who aren't taken seriously because of trash like this woman. I hope she's charged and sued galore!

msshaden - Based on the very African name "Ndonye" I'd say the female is a woman of color herself.

Too bad her face isn't being smeared everywhere like these young men. But I get your point.

Thank goodness for cameras. Four men could have gone to prison for this disgusting woman's lies!

Obviously she's got some major issues. First she has sex with a group of men she just met (not normal, regardless of how liberal one's morals are). Then she makes up the rape story because she's afraid that the truth will get out (that she has sex with strangers in bathrooms).

How many innocent men are sitting in prison today because of accusations like this?

Personally I think everyone involved should have their pictures in the paper, why not? Those who did nothing wrong have nothing to be ashamed of, actually they were probably bragging about it to friends and writing Penthouse Letters. Those making false accusations should be publicly identified so society can take precautions and avoid them. Possible public humiliation might act as a deterrent to her and others in the future.

She must not have a conscience, tried to cover herself from being embarrassed, then got found out forcing her to recant. Good thing someone had a video camera handy.

I wonder how many other guys have gone to prison for a similar situation? Sounds kind of gay though.

So the boys are cleared, and now one of them may grow up to become governor of California after all.

Yes, this woman is disgusting and fortunately the men can't be convicted for crimes they didn't commit. However, it should serve as a warning about casual sex. As the old saying goes: When you lie down with dogs, you wake up with fleas.

Keebler1rk, it was filmed with one of the guys cell phones, not a camera placed in the dorm restroom by the university or anyone else. This was in the NYT article yesterday.

So the screaming heads on HLN need to recat with their loud voices about the attack on women that is happening in America.
