Kansas University spokesmen lauded the appointment of Wichita businessman Larry Jones to the Kansas Board of Regents. KU chancellor Gene Budig said he expected Jones to be a strong and active advocate for the needs of all the schools in the regents system.

Lawrence school district officials said they were “astonished” by the 115-pupil enrollment increase, which put the fall semester enrollment figure at 7,287.
