Two Baker students accused of running marijuana-growing operation out of home

September 15, 2009

Douglas County prosecutors filed charges against two Baker University students accused of having a marijuana-growing operation in their Baldwin City home.

Possession of controlled substances and drug paraphernalia charges were filed against Rai Shed Abdu Yahia, 24, and Alexander Abbas Fouad Farran, 20.

Baldwin City police said they found 28 marijuana plants and grow lights in their home in the 400 block of Eisenhower.

The men were released from jail on $2,500 bond and are scheduled later this month to return to Douglas County District Court for hearings in front of Judge Sally Pokorny, court records said.

Your comment didn't really add anything to the article. Do you just have a desire to say something? Most people comment in order to add, question, or negate something in the article or in a previous comment. However, yours was the first comment and did nothing but be a cheerleader. It's an interesting personality trait...

Frankly, it should be legal (taxed and regulated to keep it away from <21ers, of course). These guys were just demonstrating that all-American entrepreneurial spirit.

Being an immigration officer I can tell you that If these two are non-immigrant students from another country going to college and found guilty or plea to a felony, they can be deported. Remember the sicko who killed the dog? He was deported because he was a non-immigrant convicted of a felony. Send them back if they're guilty, which it sounds like they are.

Have not heard that in 30 years!

Before the para-Quatt raids on Mexico, in 1979.

What ever happened to the Golden brown gold-bud? Lol.

Haha. Somehow I knew that Practicality would be amongst the first if not the first on this one. Had to get his fix, ya'know.

Does anyone know where these two guys are from? Alexander sounds like a name of someone born here.

And I find it a little disconcerting that someone who claims to be an immigration officer posts that it sounds like they are guilty based on a newspaper article. I watched a rape trial two weeks ago in the Douglas County Courthouse in which the prosecutor thought the fella committed rape but the jury thought otherwise.

Hey, Autie, did you hear about the kid from Ark City killed in the war? You probably know his relatives - Juden? I know I went to school with a few.

Hey Jonas,

Just trying to do my good deed and save a few of the irresponsible souls here in Lawrence before they find themselves in the same boat as Rai Shed Abdu Yahia, and Alexander. Never too late to make a change in your life.

P.S. I hope the back surgery went well. Have a speedy recovery. I am sure I will give you lots of comments to attack in your down time.

P.S.S. Do they prescribe medical Marijuana for pain management in back operations? I bet they do in California. J/K

America. Kansas, in fact. And it's Raished, not Rai Shed.
