Four arrested, one taken to hospital after incident outside Jayhawk Motel

Four people were arrested and one was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital following a fight outside the Jayhawk Motel, 1004 N. Third St. Sunday night.

Lawrence Police Sgt. Susan Hadl said just before 11:30 p.m. Sunday, staff members of Oakhill Management overheard a loud fight taking place outside the motel. When officers arrived on scene, they witnessed many people outside brawling.

According to Sgt. Hadl, a family residing at the Jayhawk Motel had invited several transient individuals to their room. The guests, three men, arrived at the motel, where the residents and guests proceeded to consume alcohol. Sgt. Hadl said officers were not able to determine what started the fight, but said the individuals involved were all heavily intoxicated when officers arrived at the scene. Although the 30-year-old man who had invited the men over was battered, he refused to press charges in the incident.

Officers arrested the three transients, one of whom was taken to LMH for lacerations to the head, on charges of disorderly conduct. They also charged one of the men with battery.

Sgt. Hadl said after officers had sorted out the situation, the 29-year-old woman who invited the men over engaged in a fight with another woman in front of officers. Because officers witnessed the incident, the 29-year-old woman was arrested for disorderly conduct.
