KU volleyball team snags title

? Three Kansas University volleyball players finished with double digit kills in the Jayhawks’ 3-0 victory over the University of Arkansas Saturday night at the Arkansas Tournament.

The Jayhawks, who won the tourney with a 3-0 record, rolled 25-15, 25-18, 25-15.

Karina Garlington had a team-best 14 kills, Paige Mazour 12, and Allison Mayfield 10.

Nicole Tate was just shy of a double-double in recording 36 assists and nine digs. She also had five kills on seven attempts for a .714 attack percentage.

Mazour hit a team-high .588 attack percentage and finished the tournament swinging at a .474 clip to earn tournament MVP honors. She also recorded seven service aces over the weekend to increase her season-high total to 12 and has had at least one ace in six straight matches.

Katie Martincich had 12 digs, while Melissa Manda and Mayfield had nine apiece.

Tayler Tolefree had a team-high five blocks. Tate and Garlington also made the all tournament team for KU, which improved to 7-2 overall. Arkansas fell to 6-5.

Earlier Saturday, KU downed Jacksonville State 25-15, 25-12, 25-16. Tolefree had 10 kills and Manda 13 digs. Garlington and Mayfield contributed nine kills each. Mazour finished with a .375 hitting percentage and four kills, while the Kansas defense held the Gamecocks to just .085 hitting.
