Colorado Springs, Colo. ? The No. 13 Kansas University soccer team dropped its first game of the season, 2-1, to the University of Denver on Friday at the Colorado College Invitational.

Denver midfielder Katy Van Lieshout scored an unassisted goal with 5:44 remaining.

The Jayhawks dropped to 5-1 overall, while Denver improved to 4-1-1.

Kansas started last season 5-1 as well.

Kansas and Denver met in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last season. The Jayhawks won, 2-1.

On Friday, the teams played even for the first 85 minutes, before the Pioneers scored the game-winning goal following a Jayhawk foul.

On a free kick from 25 yards out, Van Lieshout sent a shot through traffic that skipped to the right of Kansas goalkeeper Julie Hanley and into the net at 84:16.

The goal marked the first time Kansas has trailed in a game this season.

Emily Cressy scored in the first half with a high-arching shot over Denver goalkeeper Lara Campbell in the 30th minute.

KU junior Rachel Morris collected her first assist of the season, finding Cressy in the top-outside corner of the box for the goal.

The Jayhawks held a slight edge in shots, 16-13, and corners, 5-4.

The Jayhawks also forced Campbell into making seven saves.

Monica Dolinsky had five shots and two shots on goal for KU.

Cressy chipped in with three shots.

The Jayhawks will face Colorado College at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday at Colorado Invitational.
