Weekend event to celebrate monarchs

Monarch Watch will have its annual open house this weekend to celebrate the arrival of the migrating monarch butterflies from the north.

The free open house for children and adults will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Foley Hall, 2021 Constant Ave., on Kansas University’s West Campus.

Monarch Watch members will teach about creating way stations for the butterflies and show off the butterfly and pollinator garden maintained by Margarete Johnson and the Douglas County Master Gardeners.

To children, the group will also provide a limited number of monarch pupae that will later emerge as butterflies. Information is also available at monarchwatch.org/openhouse.
