Search panel formed for KU music dean

Kansas University officials have named a search committee to find the first permanent dean for KU’s new School of Music.

John Stephens, professor and director of voice and opera, will be the chairman of the 14-member committee.

Also on the committee are: Michael Bauer, professor of organ; Martin Bergee, professor and director of music education and music therapy; Joyce Castle, professor of voice and opera; David Hiebert, School of Music supporter; Tami Lee Hughes, assistant professor of violin; Mary Lee Hummert, vice provost for faculty development; Mary Ellen Kondrat, dean of the School of Social Welfare; Steve Leisring, associate professor of trumpet; Scott Murphy, associate professor of music theory and music composition; Rita Riley, director of undergraduate studies for the School of Music; Clarissa Smith, student; Scott Weiss, associate professor of music and director of bands; and Stephanie Zelnick, assistant professor of clarinet.

Alicia Clair is serving as the school’s interim dean.
