Hurricane Linda forms, Fred weakens

? Hurricane Linda has formed far out over the Pacific while Hurricane Fred weakened to a Category 2 storm in the Atlantic.

Earlier Wednesday, Hurricane Fred became the second major hurricane of the Atlantic season before weakening and remains far out at sea without threatening land.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami says Fred’s maximum sustained winds have weakened to near 105 mph. It’s projected five-day path will keep it over the open ocean until it loses steam.

The storm is centered about 645 miles west of the Cape Verde Islands and moving northwest near 10 mph.

Meanwhile, Hurricane Linda’s maximum sustained winds are near 80 mph but is expected to weaken tonight and Friday.
