City of Lawrence hosts energy fair/tour

The ninth annual Lawrence Energy Conservation Fair and Sustainable Homes Tour will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Community Building, 115 W. 11th St.

The fair, sponsored by the city’s Waste Reduction and Recycling Division, provides an umbrella that allows a wide range of energy conservation organizations and companies to reach a broad audience in a trade show setting.

The tour, occurring in conjunction with the fair, will offer energy-saving techniques and sustainability through building design, efficient appliances, and use of green materials during remodeling.

Ticket sales for the bus tours of local energy-efficient homes and businesses will begin at 9:30 a.m. from the Community Building. Cost is $10 for adults and $2 for children under 14. Tours will leave at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The Lawrence Transit System will offer free rides on the T all day next Saturday.
