100 years ago: Funeral held for shooting victim

From the Lawrence Daily World for Sept. 4, 1909: “Services have been held for Walter Fisher killed by an accidental discharge of a target rifle while conducting a shooting gallery at the Harvest House picnic. The death has been ruled purely accidental due to a firearm that was put on a counter and discharged by accident. … The prospects for a record-breaking attendance at Kansas University this fall are soaring and registrar George Foster says ‘the signs were never so good.’ There will be many Kansas City students and the mail from prospects is flooding in.”
