Hutchinson ? A dog that escaped from the Hutchinson Correctional Facility’s K-9 unit has been found.

Prison spokesman Steve Schneider says the dog, named Daisy, was found Thursday by a resident who saw her running free a few blocks from the K-9 unit. The citizen returned the dog early Friday after learning from news coverage where she belonged.

Schneider says Daisy suffered a slight injury to one paw, but the family who found her treated it.

The Belgian Malinois escaped Thursday after becoming frightened by thunder from a storm. She escaped by forcing a latch on a chain-link fence cage. Schneider says the latch will likely be strengthened.

Schneider says it’s the first time a trained dog from the K-9 unit has escaped from the kennel, which has a fence about 8 feet high.
