A Blackhawk helicopter landing Friday on Tonganoxie High School’s football field was the main attraction for Tonganoxie school district students and other spectators.
The helicopter, which Tonganoxie High School graduate Tim Brundage of the Kansas National Guard piloted, delivered a handful of Tonganoxie school district faculty to the school’s Beatty Field. A similar event took place Friday morning in Basehor.
The fly-in was part of Red Ribbon Week festivities for the school district. Red Ribbon Week is a nationwide event that promotes living healthy, drug-free lives.
During Friday’s program, students from all district schools filled the home seating section and lined the track in front of the stands.
The Tonganoxie VFW presented the colors, while the THS band and dance team performed at the event, which was open to the public.
High school students, as well as people who traveled to the program in the helicopter, spoke about the importance of people who have and are now serving in the U.S. armed forces and urged all students to live drug-free.

What does this celebration of militarism have to do with an anti-drug message?

Who cares how it ties in with the anti-drug message. Tim is a stud and a great guy to boot. I for one am a proud American citizen and love to see symbols of the American military.
We'd better take this in while we can, because with Hussein Obama in power our military won't be around for long. He's running the US into the ground and we'll soon be prime for an invasion by another military.

The counter drug task force spots marijuana cultivation from the air, they look for meth labs and assist with the message to not use drugs. During the winter the task force pilots must continue to train so this is also a training mission for the pilot and crew.
I find it hard to believe that a hard core marxist such as yourself would object to militarism. LBJ started the war on poverty (quagmire), Clinton started the war on morals, Barak is at war against the US Constitution. The left has consistently militarized causes as a method of galvanizing the populace to their cause.

Assume you are rephrasing for the nut jobs on here. Actually the times republicans have been in office is when the ties between the drug lords and the American government have been the greatest.

Not to mention the military escapades of conservative Republicans such as Reagen in Beirurt and Granada, and the Bushes in Iraq, with the resultant loss of life, and the continuing clean up being done by all Americans with the welcome help of our underappreciated president, Barak Obama.

Thanks I just spit coffee all over my computer I laughed so hard. What a false stupid statement. Yeah maybe he should spend more time playing golf and not doing anything about Afganistan. Really you need to stop drinking the cool-aid.

I laugh every time i see you republicans doggin on Obama when Bush is the one who made our military start going down hill. Cuts like no other administration has ever done. Throwing bad money into things to help Chaney out and the list go`s on and on. At least Obama is meeting with the real war leaders to see just how many more troops will get the job done. Keep in mind the Russians and other nations have spent years and decades fighting in Afganastan and nobody ever won and tens of thousands died. As for the helo flying in to the school, that is very cool and will give kids goals in life and help them to say NO to drugs and do something with their lives.

drugs are bad mmmk. except for prozac, zoloft, ambien, alcohol, valium, xanax, oxycontin, viagra, adderall, nexium, benadryl, and about 10,000 others. but those aren't really the drugs they mean because they help people…and sometimes kill..well actually they kill quite often, but other than that. but these drugs are legal kids, so it's ok. nevermind that marijuana is a natural herbal remedy with no record of ever killing anyone. but yeah, pot is bad.

Marijuana is too readily available and therefore a threat to corporate America. You can drink all the beer you want from a big brewer but there are limits for anyone else making it to drink. It is pretty obvious why marijuana is such a concern to our bought and paid for politicians.

“underappreciated president, Barak Obama”
I do believe he has already won the Nobel Prize for doing nothing! My dog has done more productive work outside this morning than Hussein Obama has done in his time in office.
I respect the Office of the President of the United States, but not Mr. Obama.
My respect truly goes to everyone of our men and women fighting to protect our American Freedoms. Mr. Obama has already tried to step on many of those rights, most recently the Freedom of the Press.

Just wondering who pays for these expensive “joy rides”… Taxpayers? I certainly hope not. Arriving in a Volkswagen would have done the same anti-drug message with a lot less expense!

Grandma~ The old “who is paying for this” whine is so lame. Pilots must constantly do takeoffs, landings, and other maneuvers. They fly routinely—what do you think they do? Sit around watching “Top Gun,” eating Doritos, and waiting for some actual military action before they take to the skies? How useful would they be if their skills were not kept sharp?
We live in a chopper flight path. Chinooks fly over my neighborhood a few times every week. Occasionally, I see a few Blackhawks or Apaches.
Nobody says a word—but let one of them land in the football stadium to engage the kids' interest for a good cause, and I have no doubt that the locals would start bleating about “what this is costing the taxpayers.” Hypocrites with their heads in the sand.

Ahh, nothing like having the first time in a helicopter pukies, then having to give a little speech in front of a bunch of kids who couldn't care less what you are saying, and you know it.
You knew it before you got there, you knew it before you went to bed, when you got up, before you got on the thing.
You knew you might feel this bad. There was that bad experience one time on a Spring break carnival ride that you don't talk about to anyone, but you've been trying to blame that on the jello shots, Sex On the Beaches, and beer bongs.Thank heavens there wasn't my space back then.
You've grown up, a professional now, so what were you going to do?
“Sure, I can do this. Helicopter? Anti Drug speech? Got it.”
(before landing:Please don't there there be video when we get off…oh damn, this will end up on youtube and if I'm green…)
