Veritas suffers first setback

? In the battle of unbeatens, the Veritas Christian School football team came up short. Wichita Sunrise Christian Academy defeated Veritas, 64-22, on Thursday.

Ethan Scott scored two of the Eagles touchdowns, rushing for one and scoring on a 76-yard kickoff return. Scott finished the night with 122 yards on 17 carries.

Nick Bennett scored Veritas’ other touchdown on a 35-yard run. He rushed for 83 yards on 14 carries and was 9-of-19 for 98 yards passing.

Veritas’ Hogan Randall also rushed for 74 yards on 15 carries and added 14 tackles on defense.

The Eagles were hit by the flu this week. They played without one starter, and four others played despite being sick this week.

“The guys showed a lot of heart” Veritas coach Doug Bennett said. “It was a great effort. Our school’s been hit with the flu, and it affected our team quite a bit.”

With the victory, Wichita Sunrise earned the No. 1 seed in the KCAA playoffs.

Veritas will host St. Mary’s Academy at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
