Dentist takes course in oral appliance therapy

Dr. Joseph R. Gatti, of Lawrence, attended an advanced course in oral appliance therapy, sponsored by the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, Oct. 9-11 in New Orleans.

Topics ranged from the interaction of fibromyalgia and sleep, restless leg syndrome and sleep fragmentation to methods for treating various complications that can occur when utilizing oral appliance therapy for sleep-disordered breathing.

Dental sleep medicine is a rapidly expanding field that allows the dentist to affect the overall health of the patient.

The American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine is an organization of more than 1,600 dentists who treat obstructive sleep apnea with oral appliance therapy.
