From the Lawrence Daily World for Oct. 28, 1909: “A magnificent structure crowning all of Mount Oread will be the new administration building at the university, the plans for which were made by the board of regents and state architect Chandler yesterday. Only a few minor changes will be needed for the east wing which is to be erected at a cost of $125,000. There will be class rooms and a large art gallery on the third floor. The wing will be a handsome building in itself, undoubtedly the best on the campus. But as a part of the huge half-million administration building it will be the finest college building in the state. It will wind up in the shape of an E. There will be two wings, each costing $125,000, and there will be three stories and a full basement. The building is to be of native stone to conform with the majority of other buildings on the campus although it will have a finer finish than either the gymnasium or chemistry building. The third-floor art gallery is due to be one of the major features of the building when it is finished. There will be fans for ventilation and skylight roofing and there will be spaces for painting and drawing.”
