The local VFW and VFW Auxiliary are collecting items for Make a Difference Day.
Donations are being accepted for “I Care” kits for the homeless. Items needed are: combs, toothbrushes, travel-size toiletries, Band-Aids, disposable razors, facial tissue, pocket packs, mittens, socks, stocking caps, or any other hygiene or warmth related items.
Items may be delivered to all Lawrence fire stations: Station 1, 746 Ky.; Station 2, 2128 Harper St.; Station 3, 3708 W. Sixth St.; Station 4, 2121 Wakarusa Drive; and Station 5, 1911 Stewart Ave.; Station 11, Kibbee St., Baldwin City; or VFW, Post 852 Alford-Clarke Post, 138 Alabama Street.

The Wednesday Afternoon Duplicate Bridge Club’s game on Oct. 14 was directed by Chris Lane. North-South winners were Klee Zaricky and Betty Collier, first in A and B; Lester Dalton and Nita Scales, second in A; Patricia Lechtenberg and Chris Lane, third in A; Grant Sutton and Catherine Blumenfeld, fourth in A and second in B; and Ann Thompson and Gary Joyce first in C.
East-West winners were Lois Clark and Shirley Reese, first in A and B; Eldon Herd and Shari Krentzel, second in A; Madelyn Jenks and Virginia Seaver, third in A; Sally Taylor and Yvonne Hedges, fourth in A; and Bebe Huxtable and Wanna Roszel, second in A and first in C.

The Thursday Morning Mentor Duplicate Bridge Club’s game on Oct. 15 was directed by Lester Dalton. Winners were Dick Shaffer and Debbie Bettinger, first in A and B; Becky Mullins and Patricia Lechtenberg, second in A; Virginia Seaver and Barbara Figgins, third in A; and Marilyn Martin and Ann Thompson, fourth in A.

The Friday Afternoon Duplicate Bridge Club’s game on Oct. 16 was directed by Virginia Seaver. North-South winners were Steven Vossler and Larry Weatherholt, first in A; Jeremy Martin and Brandon Humpert, second in A, and first in B and C; Harry Shaffer and Lynn Hui, third in A; and Earle Core and Debbie Bettinger, second in B and C.
East-West winners were Lester Dalton and James Masilamani, first in A; Paul Heitzman and Mark Osborn, second in A; Dick Shaffer and Jack Flickinger, third in A, and first in B and C; and Ann Thompson and Catherine Blumenfeld, second in B and C.

The Monday Evening Duplicate Bridge Club’s game on Oct. 19 was directed by Virginia Seaver. North-South winners were Steven Vossler and Larry Weatherholt, first in A; Mary Fenlon and Jean Otney, second in A; Clyde Romer and Steven Phelps, third in A and first in B; and Lois Clark and Harry Shaffer, fourth in A.
East-West winners were John Hickey and James Kelley, first in A and B; Craig Huneke and Virginia Seaver, second in A; Jolene Andersen and Patrick Musick, third in A and second in B; and Bobby Patton and Peter Petillo, fourth in A and third in B.

University Bridge Club announces results of its Oct. 17 meeting, with hosts Paul and Carolyn Jordan, and Karmie and Edna Galle.
Blue winners were Mary Jo Spotts, first; Ray Ikenberry, second; Florence McNicoll, third; Paul Jordan and Karmie Galle, co-winners, fourth; and Walt Hicks, fifth.
Pink winners were Alice Akin, first; Bebe Huxtable, second; Donna Gatts, third; JoAnne Hicks, fourth; and Willie Stoltenberg, fifth.
