Bennett, Scott carry Veritas to rout of St. Mary’s
St. Marys ? Nick Bennett rushed for 71 yards and threw for 142 more, and Veritas Christian School remained undefeated with a 44-20 high school football victory over St. Mary’s Academy on Friday.
“It was our first time as a high school beating St. Mary’s, so it was a sweet victory for us,” Veritas coach Doug Bennett said. “We executed well all around — special teams, offense and defense. We executed extremely well on offense, and to hold an eight-man team to 20 points is a great accomplishment.”
Nick Bennett was 10-for-19 passing, with three TD tosses and three conversion passes.
Ethan Scott had seven catches for 101 yards, with three receiving touchdowns, a running TD and a 72-yard kickoff-return touchdown. Hogan Randall had 15 carries for 104 yards.
Defensively, Scott was in on 15 tackles with an interception; Randall was in on 18 stops; and Tim Kramer had a hand in 14 tackles, including two sacks.
Veritas (8-0) will conclude the regular season Thursday at Wichita Sunrise, which also is undefeated.
“It’s a big game for us,” Doug Bennett said. “It’s a big showdown to finish out the season.”
