100 years ago: Governor cites lack of practical education as cause for divorce

From the Lawrence Daily World for Oct. 23, 1909: “Gov. Stubbs visited the state manual training normal school in Pittsburg today and in a talk attributed one-fourth of the present number of divorces to the lack of practical education along the lines of household duties. ‘No matter whether a woman marries a millionaire or a salaried man,’ Stubbs said, ‘if she has the ability she can keep harmony in the home.'”
