Children can participate in a trick-or-treat hike Friday night at Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St., more than a week before Halloween.

Lawrence Parks and Recreation will present “Where the Kansas Wild Things Are” from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at the nature center.

Youngsters can put on their costumes for a hike around Mary’s Lake where spiders, bats and “not-too-spooky” monsters can be found along the trails. The nature center will also provide cookies and cider.

Prairie Park Partners will sponsor the event. For more information call the nature center, 832-7980.

I live by the nature center, and the people that run it are very sweet and caring for kids and animals. They idea that some kids can get out and get some exercise a week before you hand them a fist full of candy is a great thing. It really is a wonderful place, and if you are yet to visit, please do.
