To the editor:

We do not know at this time how the Nobel Peace Prize to Mr. Obama will turn out. While I do not support his view of foreign policy, my differences are based on factors he probably disagrees with. I hope that he will able to impact the situation in Central and Southwest Asia in a positive manner.

I would note that current perceptions do not last. Woodrow Wilson received the Peace Prize in 1919 for his negotiation of the Versailles Treaty, which was to guarantee a lasting peace through punishment of Germany and organization of the League of Nations. Certain flaws in the treaty such as the punitive actions against Germany and the sanctioned occupation of China by Japan set the stage for an even greater conflict.
