KU’s Bal has career finish in sixth

? Kansas University junior Meghna Bal tied for sixth individually and the Jayhawks women’s golf team placed in a tie for seventh on Wednesday at the Price’s Give Em Five Intercollegiate.

The sixth-place finish is the best finish of Bal’s career. She opened the tournament with a one-under 71 on Monday and followed with consecutive rounds of 74 for a three-round total of 219.

KU’s Emily Powers broke 70 for the third time in her career with a final-round 69 on Wednesday. She tied for 23rd with a 224 total after shooting 81-74 the first two days.

Grace Thiry tied for 30th at 225, while Jennifer Clark tied for 55th at 232 and Meghan Gockel finished 90th at 246.

Idaho won the event at 871. Kansas tied Kansas State at 900.

The Jayhawks improved their standing each day of the tournament and shot 297 in the second and third rounds after opening with a 306 in round one.

Kansas will close out its fall campaign Oct. 26-27 in the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate at Kiawah Island, S.C.
