Wheel Genius: Road work planned this week

Lawrence

• Reconstruction of the intersection of North Second and Locust streets has closed both lanes of North Second heading north through the intersection, and one lane heading south. Northbound vehicles follow a detour including Elm, North Third, Locust and — crossing the Union Pacific Railroad tracks — Lyon streets. The restrictions are expected to last into late November or December.

• Drivers may face slow traffic periods as construction continues for a new U.S. Highway 59 between Lawrence and Ottawa.

Douglas County

• Douglas County Road 438, also known as the Farmers’ Turnpike, is closed for reconstruction from South Lawrence Trafficway to County Road 1029. A detour is available using the trafficway, U.S. Highway 40 and County Road 1029. The project is scheduled for completion by Thanksgiving.

• Two bridges on County Road 458, southwest of Clinton Lake, are limited to one-lane traffic for construction work. Temporary signals control traffic on the bridges, and traffic delays could be up to two minutes on each bridge.

Kansas Highway 10

• Drivers westbound on Kansas Highway 10 continue to be limited to one lane crossing a bridge over the Wakarusa River, about two miles west of Eudora. The bridge is being repaired. The lane limitation and a speed limit of 60 mph are expected to last into mid-November.

U.S. Highway 24

• During weekday daylight hours, traffic on U.S. Highway 24 in Shawnee County is limited to one lane in each direction over the bridge that spans Union Pacific Railroad tracks 1.56 miles east of Topeka Boulevard, for a repair project expected to continue through mid-December.

U.S. Highway 69

• A stretch of U.S. Highway 69 — the 18th Street Expressway in Wyandotte County — is set to have traffic reduced to one lane in each direction for bridge painting, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily through March.

Johnson County

• The 95th Street bridge spanning Interstate 435 is to be closed for a repair project until Nov. 18. Drivers heading east on 95th are detoured via Renner Boulevard to 87th Street to Lackman Road; drivers going west on 95th are detoured via northbound I-435 to 87th Street to southbound I-435 to Renner Boulevard.
