Democracy leader Suu Kyi meets diplomats

? Officials say Myanmar’s military leader has allowed detained Myanmar pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi to meet Western diplomats to discuss sanctions imposed against the country.

The government officials said the meeting was being held Friday between the Nobel Prize winner and diplomats of the United States, Great Britain and Australia at a government guest house.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the press.

Last month, Suu Kyi sent a letter to junta leader Senior Gen. Than Shwe saying she was ready to cooperate with the government to have the sanctions lifted and sought permission to meet with Western diplomats to discuss the issue.
