From the Lawrence Daily World for Nov. 30, 1909: “Martin Shafer was killed at Bonner Springs yesterday in a jump from a train at a Bonner crossing. He is a postal clerk and often has done the same thing but it was dark and he misjudged his landing and died as a result.”
