100 years ago: Dyche seeks to become state game warden

From the Lawrence Daily World for Nov. 23, 1909: Prof. L.L. Dyche would like to become the state fish and game warden, as Gov. Stubbs has asked him to do, but he says he cannot let that job interfere with his scientific work at the university. If the governor and board of regents allow him to devote time needed to his KU work, he will become the warden. It would be an excellent choice. . . . One of the best-known milkmen in the city was arrested today on a warrant sworn to by a deputy state food inspector, charging the local man with putting 40 percent water in the milk he was selling when a sample was taken. There recently was a similar scandal of watered milk in Tonganoxie but so far this is the only Lawrence arrest on the charge. . . . The street car firm is negotiating for new routes but it does not appear there will be any action soon on the New Jersey route. Several realignments seem to be coming about. . . . Special trains are being lined up to take fans to the Kanssas-Missouri football game in Kansas City on Thanksgiving Day. KU has an unbeaten record on the line.
