— Prosecutors on Saturday requested life in prison for an American student and her ex-boyfriend accused in the fatal stabbing of her British roommate during a drug-fueled sex game — charges the U.S. woman dismissed as “pure fantasy.”

In their closing arguments, the prosecutors said Amanda Knox and Italian Raffaele Sollecito should be convicted on charges of murder and sexual violence for the 2007 slaying of Meredith Kercher.

They deny wrongdoing.

Knox, who is from Seattle, took a deep breath when Prosecutor Giuliano Mignini requested life imprisonment — Italy’s stiffest punishment. She then addressed the court, saying that the accusations against her were “pure fantasy.”

“Meredith was my friend, I didn’t hate her,” she said in Italian, fighting back tears.

The Briton’s body, her throat slit, was found in a pool of blood on Nov. 2, 2007, in the apartment she shared with Knox in the central Italian town of Perugia.

This trial may be a farce.

I recently read a book called, "The Monster of Florence," which is about a series of murders in the area of Florence, Italy.

The prosecutor in that case virtually "invented" evidence, motives, methods, etc. and eventually jailed a journalist who presented a strong case pointing to a suspect different from the prosecutor's "case." Eventually, the prosecutor was indicted for his actions in that case.

That indicted prosecutor is the same one who is prosecuting Amanda Knox. Based on his handling of the "Monster" case, nothing he says, nor any so-called evidence he presents should be taken at face value.

Is this any different than the case before our supreme court on corrupt federal prosecutors framing defendants with manipulated and false evidence through roll over witnesses coached on what to testify to get the convictions. Our system is broken with systemic corruption. Perhaps we need pay attention to our own country's corrupt judicial system first.
