100 years ago: Kansas Normal team ends series with KU

From the Lawrence Daily World for Nov. 22, 1909: That the Kansas Normal football team will never again play the state university was announced by Prof. D.A. Ellsworth of the Normal School who was here to address county teachers. “We have played the university year after year and we are outclassed,” he said. “It does not pay to humble our pride and run the risk of injuring our men by playing such a strong team as the state university is able to maintain.” . . . There is due to be such a scarcity of eggs in our region this winter that eggs may have to be shipped from eastern markets to supply demands. Eggs now are bringing from 32 to 40 cents in Chicago and are ranging from 33 to 35 cents in western markets. . . . Norton Zuttermeister fell from his bicycle this morning when his machine struck a rut and is in serious condition. He was rushed to a doctor but he may be idled for a long time. . . . The search continued for fugitive Ross Bullock, who robbed the Eudora bank, killed a Lawrence lawman and then fled. There have been several so-called sightings but no capture seems likely at this point.
