Robbery occurred outside city limits, not in KU parking lot, police say

A Nov. 12 robbery that reportedly happened in a Kansas University parking lot actually happened in Douglas County, outside the city limits, KU police said Friday.

Police Capt. Schuyler Bailey said the case was forwarded to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office for investigation.

Officers arrested a Perry man in the case, but charges were later dropped against him after further investigation, District Attorney Charles Branson said.

KU police said the suspect and another man punched a 19-year-old in the face as he was walking to his car in a university parking lot near Allen Fieldhouse. The victim, who is not a student, reportedly had his wallet stolen and was told by the suspects not to call police, officers said. The suspects left in a white Cadillac.

Bailey said the crime did not actually occur on campus. A spokesman for the sheriff’s office on Friday said deputies have not yet received information about the case from the police.
