100 years ago: Police arrest 4 for drinking

From the Lawrence Daily World for Nov. 17, 1909: The council last night studied three plans to make Lawrence a greater and better city — a park at the old county jail site, a uniform system of trimming trees along the streets, and the building of a big storm sewer on Tennessee Street from Lee to the river to take care of the storm water from the hillside and forever settle the draininage problem for Lawrence. . . . Lawrence will send the largest delegation that has ever gone to the Kansas Missouri Game, to be played in Kansas City on Thanksgiving Day. Seats will be at a premium and most of the good seats are already gone. The largest KU student group in history is due, attendance could top 15,000 there will be numerous special trains. Also, this could be one of the greatest social events ever seen by Kansas and Missouri fans. Lawrence should decorate as handsomely as possible even though the game is in Kansas City. . . . Police last night raided a barn at 721 New Hampshire and arrested four drunks. No booze was found but there were 25 or 30 whisky bottles lying around.
