Bert Nash marks Mental Health Wellness Week by offering tips for good health

Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center is participating in the nation’s first Mental Health Wellness Week, a grassroots public awareness campaign taking place this week — Nov. 14-21.

To highlight the week, Bert Nash has developed a link on its Web site, listing tips and strategies for mental health wellness.

Additionally, Bert Nash will highlight a daily tip for mental health wellness on its Facebook page throughout the week.

Monday’s tip is to eat well. Good nutrition can help at times of stress, but that’s exactly when lots of us tend to eat less well. According to a recent survey, nearly half of Americans overeat or eat unhealthy food to cope with stress.

Mental Health America’s advice: Don’t skip meals, snack well, eat a balanced diet, don’t over diet, be carb smart, reduce saturated fat and cholesterol, limit alcohol and cut back on caffeine.

“Mental Health Wellness Week is an opportunity to educate the community about good mental health,” said David Johnson, CEO of Bert Nash. “In this economy, all of us at Bert Nash are constantly striving to inform the public about good coping skills, ways to handle stress and maintain good health.”
