Katrina and Scott Hammerschmidt, Eudora, announce the birth of their daughter, Kallie Mae Hammerschmidt, on Sept. 30, 2009, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center in Overland Park.

Kallie has a brother, Elias Joseph Hammerschmidt, 2.

Maternal grandparents are Steve and Karen Chambers, Lawrence; paternal grandparents are Elden and Margie Hammerschmidt, Hays.

Great-grandparents are Bill and Wanda Chambers, St. Joseph, Mo., Edna Hammerschmidt, and Al and Aletha Denning, all of Hays.

Southwest Junior High School won first place and Central Junior High School won second place, in the K-9 division of the Blue Valley High School Chess Tournament on Nov. 7 at Blue Valley High School. CJHS’s Eddie Wilson also won the first place individual trophy in K-9.

Lawrence area medal winners in K-9 were: Eddie Wilson, CJHS, first; Aaron Simon, West Junior High School, third; Kastubh Nimkar, SWJH, fourth; Andrei Elliott, SWJH, sixth; Robert Newman, South Junior High School, eighth; Venkata Malladi, SWJH, 10th; Austin Bailey, CJHS, 16th; and George Wedge, CJHS, 21st.

Other medal winners were: in K-6, Apramay Mishra, Sunflower, second; and in K-3, Shrivatsa Malladi, Langston Hughes, 13th.
