Since taking the job of director of admissions at Kanas University in 1980, Linda Thompson was leaving to marry Dr. Scott Robinson of Bakersfield, Calif., and pursue a job prospect in California. Thompson had become one of KU’s finest recruiters in her time on the job here. She did not cite the job she was seeking out west.

A recent study by Paul Schumaker, chairman of the Kansas University political science department, indicated the Lawrence city government was a prime example of a “working representative democracy.” He reported his findings at the annual meeting of the American Political Science Assn.

A warm dry spell had helped area farmers come close to wrapping up the fall harvest, but local farm observers said most bins would be anything but bulging. Jack Smith, farm agent, said farmers finally were getting back into the fields after too much rain but there were fears new rain would cause new problems.

State Sen. Robert Talkington appeared to have lined up the votes to be elected president of the Kansas Senate during leadership reorganization meetings in December. He was expected to defeat longtime president Ross Doyen.
