100 years ago: Prowlers sighted near Haskell

From the Lawrence Daily World for Nov. 5, 1909: “Two men, one middle-aged and the other young, have been prowling around Haskell Institute for the past three evenings, giving the Indians a great scare. Last night the mysterious prowlers were discovered in the boiler room of the hospital building but knocked over a guard and escaped by horse and buggy. The men have been seen in a number of Haskell locations, then they disappear. … More than 200 from Lawrence were in Lincoln to see the Kansas football team defeat Nebraska by a 29-0 score. The Jayhawks now have a 7-0 record and will play on Nov. 12 at Oklahoma.”
