20-year-old man taken to hospital after stabbing incident

Victim treated and released from LMH

A 20-year-old man was taken by friends to Lawrence Memorial Hospital late Saturday night after a stabbing incident outside an Ohio Street residence.

Lawrence Police Sgt. Ted Bordman said the victim, a KU student, was in the 1300 block of Ohio Street just after 11 p.m. attending a party in the area. He became involved in an altercation with another person who proceeded to attack him with a knife.

Bordman said the student sustained a non-life-threatening laceration to his arm.

Witnesses described the suspect as being dressed in a ‘Joe Dirt’-style costume. The suspect was wearing a long mullet-style wig with painted-on facial hair. He was also said to be wearing a long-sleeve red flannel shirt. The suspect was last seen heading north from the location on Ohio.

A nursing supervisor at Lawrence Memorial Hospital confirmed Monday evening the victim had been treated and released.

As of Monday evening, the suspect had not yet been apprehended.
