Magazine earns awards, merits

The Golf Course Superintendents Association of America’s Golf Course Management magazine earned 11 awards from the Turf and Ornamental Communicators Association May 14 at a ceremony in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.

At the ceremony, GCM garnered five first-place commercial publication writing awards and six merit awards.

Winners in commercial publication are:

• Terry Ostmeyer, senior staff writer, first, turf feature, “H2No,” April 2008.

• Kelly Neis, senior manager of creative services, first, headline writing, “H2No.”

• Bill Steele, GCM contributor, Environmental Stewardship, “Calculating the value of green,” Feb. 2008.

• Trent Bouts, contributor, first, general features, “Lone Rangers,” Dec. 2008.

• Peter Blais, GCM contributor, first, product information, “Up, up and away,” Feb. 2008.

Winners in merit are:

• Darcy DeVictor, GCM’s associate editor, operations profile, “In the brick of it,” May 2008.

• Seth Jones, GCM senior associate editor, general feature, “GCSAA’s Ladies Man,” July 2008; and in photography, “Honor the land,” Aug. 2008.

• John Fech, Ph.D., ornamental feature and headline writing, “Too mulch of a good thing?”, March 2008.

• Roger Billings, GCM senior manager of design/creative services, portrait/personality, “Reaching out,” May 2008.
