Health care rally set for Saturday in Topeka

It’s estimated that 340,000 people in the state — about 13 percent of Kansans — do not have health insurance. About 13,000 of them live in Douglas County. Nationwide, 46 million people are uninsured.

A rally for health care reform is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Capitol in Topeka.

Among those who will speaking are Dr. Bill Roy, former U.S. Congressman; Dr. Joshua Freeman, chairman of Kansas University Medical Center’s Department of Family Practice; Julie Pierce, health care reform advocate; and Dr. David Goering, medical director of Health Care Access Clinic in Lawrence.

Sponsors of the rally include Kansas Health Care For All, Heartland Healthcare For All, Sunflower Community Action, Kansas Action Network, League of Women Voters, Kansas AFL-CIO and Physicians for a National Health Program and Healthcare-NOW!
