This is s serious problem. Too many people drive under the influence and find nothing wrong with it. I have to wonder how many of these 10 people will be back on the streets DUI in the near future. Seems like being caught doesn't slow a lot of them down. Still, I applaud our law enforcement agencies for trying to make it safer for us all.

These men and women who serve and protect did a good job, yes. But they brought in a small (tiny) percentage of those who were driving under the influence. How many people drive somewhere to drink? A great many. How many of them walk, bike, or get a ride home? Not many. There are people who are driving over the limit all the time. Not just at night. Not just on holiday weekends. When the roads are busy there is a good chance you are near someone who is past .08.

Funny, they are CROOKED!! Last night we were at sylas and maddy's getting icecream and there was a KU party bus that just dropped about 50 of em off and they were all carrying open beer and cases upon cases of beer downtown... right IN FRONT of the COPS!!!
Oh, they're KU students, they can get away with it though......

One person in Lawrence was drunk in the road. You can read a lot into that statement. They found one drunk person in Lawrence over the weekend! Wow!

WHY 5 years, 6 months ago

10 out of 10,000 that drove drunk this weekend. You are better off with a drunk than a soccer mom on the phone eating a cheeseburger.

@unelectable: Operating a bicycle while under the influence (above .08) is still DWI. Better off walking that bike home.

Most of the people I know that received dui's decided to not drive under the influence, got into the designated driver thing. one did eventually ended up jail time, and is a total loser. Once person took it as a sign to join AA, he has been sober 10 years. Thanks lpd for giving the tickets, busting their chops is good work.

I find it really odd how the wingnuts keep calling Obama a messiah or miracle worker and suggesting he becomes point man for everything. If they think they can just point at one person and say fix it, they missed getting the responsibility badge in scouts. If you see a drunk get behind the wheel don't pray Obama will fix it. Get your butt out of the wingnuts chair, call the police or grab the keys.

I'd like to see the paper print mug shots of each of the people who are charged with DUI's. It could be a special section of the Monday paper. Idiots'r'us.
