Lawrence police are seeking a suspect in connection with an armed robbery reported Monday night at Motel 6, 1130 N. Third St.

The suspect was wearing a jogging suit or hooded jacket. The suspect, believed to be a tall, slender black man, was “heavily garbed,” with either a mask or hood covering most of his face, Lawrence Police Sgt. Susan Hadl said.

The man rushed up to the counter with a handgun and demanded the clerk hand over money and get on the ground. The clerk complied with the suspect and was not injured in the incident, Hadl said. A witness told police the man ran east after leaving the hotel then headed south around the corner of the building.

The call was dispatched to police about 10:38 p.m., and officers arrived on scene one minute later.
