Sabbatini, Mallinger tied at top

? Rory Sabbatini and John Mallinger are set to play another round together as leaders at the Byron Nelson Championship.

The second-round co-leaders shot 5-under 65s Saturday to share the lead again after three rounds. They are at 13-under 197 and two strokes ahead of three other players.

Sabbatini was even through four holes before closing his front nine with four birdies. He has won four times, the last two years ago at the Colonial.

Mallinger enjoyed a bogey-free round. He is in his 77th PGA Tour event and looking for his first victory.

Dustin Johnson had a 66 and struggled after going 6 under through eight holes. He was in the group at 11 under with Brian Davis and D.A. Points.

Kevin Streelman (64), Glen Day (65) and Briny Baird (67), who was 5 under through seven holes before three bogeys in a five-hole stretch, were at 10-under 200.

Two share Corning lead

Corning, N.Y. — Rookie Mika Miyazato of Japan and Soo-Yun Kang of South Korea share the lead after three rounds at the LPGA Corning Classic. Miyazato shot a 10-under 62 and Kang had a 65 Saturday. Their score of 17-under 199 ties the tournament record for low 54-hole total.

Allen tops Senior PGA

Beachwood, Ohio — Michael Allen, winless in 271 PGA Tour events, shot a 3-under 67 to take a one-shot lead over Jeff Sluman and Tom Kite through three rounds in the Senior PGA Championship.

Sluman had the lead to himself before bogeying the 16th and 18th holes, completing a 70 that left him tie with Kite (69). Larry Mize (71), Gil Morgan (707) and Tim Simpson (68) were 1 under.

Casey leads at BMW

Virginia Water, England — England’s Paul Casey shot a bogey-free 5-under 67 to stretch his lead to three strokes after the third round of the BMW PGA Championship, Ernie Els was even par after a 70, and John Daly was 5 over after a 77.

CYCLING

Russian keeps Giro lead

Bologna, Italy — Simon Gerrans of Australia won the 14th stage of the Giro d’Italia with a long breakaway Saturday while Denis Menchov of Russia kept the overall leader’s pink jersey. Menchov remained 34 seconds in front of Danilo Di Luca of Italy. U.S. rider Levi Leipheimer dropped three seconds in an uphill finish and trails Menchov by 43 seconds in third place.

Lance Armstrong, who is still regaining his form after 31/2 years of retirement and breaking his collarbone in March, finished 1:58 back and dropped from 12th to 14th overall, 7:28 behind Menchov.

Gerrans was timed in 4 hours, 16 minutes, 48 seconds over the hilly 107-mile leg from Campi Bisenzio to Bologna. Rubens Bertogliati of Switzerland was the runner-up, 12 seconds behind. Francesco Gavazzi of Italy was third, 18 seconds back.

Ohio gains transfer

Athens, Ohio — Alex Kellogg has transferred from Providence to Ohio University and will be eligible to play for the Bobcats at the start of the 2010-11 season. Ohio University officials announced that Kellogg, the son of former NBA player and current TV analyst Clark Kellogg, had enrolled at the school.

Alex Kellogg, a 6-foot-7, 225-pound forward, played in 33 games over the last two years at Providence, starting one game. The Columbus native was an all-state performer as a senior in high school.

Bryant sues housekeeper

Santa Ana, Calif. — Kobe Bryant and his wife are suing their former housekeeper, accusing her of violating her contract by talking to the media about the family’s private affairs. The housekeeper initially sued the Los Angeles Lakers player and his wife, contending they harassed and humiliated her. The countersuit was filed Friday in Orange County Superior Court and says Maria Jimenez broke a confidentiality agreement she signed.

Wizards, Chivas USA tie

Kansas City, Kan. — Second-half substitute Eduardo Lillingston scored six minutes after entering the game, and MLS West-leading Chivas USA salvaged a card-filled 1-1 draw with the Kansas City Wizards on Saturday night.

The Wizards (4-4-3) finished with nine men after the ejections of forward Josh Wolff and midfielder Santiago Hirsig. Still, Chivas USA (7-1-3) couldn’t pick up its first win in five trips to Kansas City.

Oregon QB to transfer

Eugene, Ore. — Oregon backup quarterback Justin Roper has decided to transfer and has been granted his release. Oregon coach Chip Kelly said Saturday the 6-foot-6, 204-pound Georgia native made the decision after emerging from spring drills behind Ducks starter Jeremiah Masoli.

Kentucky lineman ineligible

Lexington, Ky. — Kentucky defensive end Jeremy Jarmon was ruled ineligible for his senior season by the NCAA because of a failed drug test. He said at a news conference Saturday he had inadvertently taken a banned substance that turned up positive during a random NCAA test in February. An appeal was denied, in effect ending his college football career.

Harrison’s son improving

Pittsburgh — The agent of Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison says the player’s young son is “doing well” at a Pittsburgh hospital following an attack by a pit bull.

Harrison’s agent, William Parise, says 2-year-old James Harrison III was bitten on the thigh after his mother let the dog out of its pen Thursday afternoon. Parise said Saturday he was with the boy at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, and the boy was expected to remain there for another day or two.

Parise says the woman and the player’s massage therapist also were hurt trying to help the boy, and the therapist needed three stitches.

Ex-lineman Lunceford dies

Tyler, Texas — Former Baylor and Chicago Cardinals offensive lineman David Glenn Lunceford has died after a lengthy illness. He was 75.

Lunceford died Saturday in a Tyler nursing home, said a spokeswoman for the Hilliard Funeral Home in nearby Van. He had Alzheimer’s, according to an obituary that appeared on the funeral home’s Web site.

Judge denies claims

Minneapolis — A federal judge has dismissed most of the claims by two Minnesota Vikings stars facing suspension over their positive test for a banned diuretic. U.S. District Judge Paul A. Magnuson remanded two of the claims by Vikings defensive tackles Kevin Williams and Pat Williams to state court.

But Magnuson threw out most of the Williamses’ claims and dismissed a lawsuit brought by the NFL players union on behalf of the Williamses and three New Orleans Saints players also facing suspension.
