Lawrence residents will hear some big booms on Sunday night.

Members of the Lawrence Jaycees will be firing several test shells near the Kansas River in preparation for their July 4 fireworks show.

The testing will be along the Kansas River levee, near Johnny’s Tavern in North Lawrence. The testing will begin about 8:30 p.m. Sunday, said Rick Bellinger, a member of the Jaycees.
