Police looking for suspects in two armed robberies

Lawrence police are looking for suspects in two armed robberies that happened in central Lawrence early Sunday morning. Enlarge video

A 23-year-old Lawrence man was unharmed after fleeing two robbers who demanded money at 2:15 a.m. Sunday, police said.

Lawrence Police Sgt. Susan Hadl said the man was approached by two suspects, one of whom was armed with a handgun, in the 1300 block of West Seventh Street near Louise's West.

Lawrence Police Sgt. Susan Hadl said the victim was walking home alone from downtown when he noticed a car pull up behind him on Seventh Street. Two men exited the light-colored passenger vehicle’s rear doors and approached the victim.

“According to him, they had a weapon and demanded that he relinquish all of his personal goods and money,” Hadl said. “He simply responded by saying, ‘I have nothing,’ and took off running.”

The man did not see which way the suspect vehicle went, nor did he get a clear description of the car. Hadl said police would be contacting area businesses for external surveillance video of the incident.

Hadl said it was still too early to speculate whether this robbery attempt was related to Sunday morning's armed robbery near 10th and Mississippi streets.

It's disturbing and sad to keep seeing more and more of these incidents croppin' up in Larryville.

Guns guns guns.... I know that guns don't kill people. People kill people. However, give an insecure person a gun and stupid things happen.... period.

By the way, I am a gun owner who respects guns for what they can be (lethal weapons) and would never point one at a person unless my life was threatened, and no other options were available.

More Crime =The secret cost of growth

Who knows perhaps robbery is now one of the better paying part time jobs in Lawrence.

Lawrence is full of people walking around at all hours of the day and night in small groups and by themselves. Easy pickings for anyone wanting to find an easy target to rob.

Sometimes I can only be amazed by your OCD-esque obsession with "growth" in Lawrence. I'm pretty sure this is a new low, even for you.

Right on the mark, Marion. That is why I got concealed carry and practice with it frequently. The days of being a victim of this random crap are over for me.

Gl0ck, this is not the first time have seen Merrill post such drivel. also, Scott5150 has too.

so growth, that hasn't really been growing for some years, caused crime that did actually happen. riiiiight.

and according to Merrill, criminals are just innocent victims of society.

I'm glad the guy got away okay. lucky, just lucky.

"Just what we need , more macho gun nuts to protect us. What are the odds of anyone getting attacked and the odds of CCH protecting anyone. I am more afraid of the concealed carry nuts than the criminals. More apt to meet nuts than criminals."

Saying essentially the same thing four different ways does not make your point any more valid. All it would take is one incident of you being saved from one of these situations by one of those oh so scary CC individuals for you to be singing a differnt tune.
