KU’s Powers shoots 80

? Kansas University golfer Emily Powers improved one stroke in the second round of the Duramed FUTURES Tour event on Saturday. Powers, a junior at KU, is the only amateur in the field of 144 players.

With nine players unable to finish the second round, Powers is tied for 113th place with a 181 total. Powers shot an opening-day 81 on Friday, but cut one stroke off her score on her second trip around the Leawood South Country Club.

After a rough start beginning the tournament on the back nine, Powers finished the day strong as she recorded pars on five of the final six holes. Powers started the day with a par on the 10th hole, but followed with three bogeys and a double-bogey in the next four holes. She finished that nine 6-over par.

Despite a birdie on the second hole for the second straight day, she reached 8-over par by following her two with a double-bogey. She then played solid down the stretch.
