Chapple named MVP of Jayhawks’ softball

Third baseman Val Chapple has been chosen the most valuable player on Kansas University’s softball team. Chapple, a senior from Olathe East, was second on the club in batting average (.307) and RBIs (25).

Chapple started 227 games during her four-year career, missing only one game during her freshman season in 2006.

Center fielder Dougie McCaulley was named offensive player of the year. A senior from Victorville, Calif., McCaulley led the Jayhawks in batting average (.311), hits (50) and stolen bases (14).

Catcher Elle Pottorf was tapped the top defensive player. A senior from Topeka, Pottorf compiled a .988 fielding percentage, making just three errors.

Outfielder Allie Clark was selected as most improved. A sophomore from Hesperia, Calif., Clark hit only .138 as a freshman, but led the Jayhawks in home runs (10) and slugging percentage (.573) this spring.
