Kansas track puts 18 on academic teams

Kansas University placed 18 representatives on the Academic All-Big 12 Men’s and Women’s Track and Field teams.

Three of the Jayhawks — Emily Reimer, Lauren Bonds and Jareb Stallbaumer — boasted perfect 4.0 grade-point averages.

Reimer, a senior architectural engineering major from Wichita, earned first-team honors for the third consecutive year, making it a clean sweep for her career.

Bonds, a junior political science and international studies major from Hutchinson, is a two-time first-team selection.

Stallbaumer, a sophomore pre-pharmacy major from Wetmore, is a first-team selection in his first year eligible for the honor.

Five other KU women made the first team. It marked the third selection for junior Megan James and the second time on the team for junior Kelsey Erb, while junior Elizabeth Beisner and sophomores Abby Jones and Amanda Miler each made their first appearance on the team.

On the men’s side, senior Levi Huseman and sophomore Cooper Merrill accompanied Stallbaumer on the first team.

Five KU men and three KU women were second-team selections: Jacob Breth, Jonathan Edwards, Patrick McGowan, Kirk Cooper, Alex Carey, Sha’Ray Butler, Hayley Harbert and Danielle Hayes
