Topeka — The Kansas Legislature honored Kansas University Chancellor Robert Hemenway on Friday.
State Rep. Barbara Ballard, D-Lawrence, credited Hemenway, who plans to step down June 30, with getting more students interested in public service.
The House and Senate approved resolutions praising Hemenway for leading KU “through an unprecedented period of progress and expansion.”
Hemenway has been chancellor since 1995.
The Legislature also adopted resolutions honoring Jon Wefald, who stepped down as president of Kansas State University, and Tom Bryant, who retired from Pittsburg State University.
