The Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department is offering a free orientation meeting for prospective child care providers.

The meeting will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the first floor meeting room at the Community Health Facility, 200 Maine.

The meeting will provide information regarding registration and licensing of family day care homes. Kansas law requires that homes be registered or licensed when care is provided away from the child’s own home for one or two children for more than 20 hours a week, or for three or more children.

Registration or licensing is not required when a family member provides care for a relative.
